The appetite of a person can escalate after quitting the habit, due to the chemical changes caused by the sudden withdrawal from the habit of smoking. You may feel anxious at times, and you may want to ‘lighten up’. People used to eat too much in such circumstances to comfort themselves. Some simple steps that you can take in this regard are trying to go to a movie to avoid the craving, get into the habit of having chewing gums, start drinking lots of water and have someone to talk to so that you can keep yourself busy without being idle. These activities divert your mind and get rid of emotions.

If a person smokes a pack of cigarettes daily how long after quitting would nicotine show up in your blood system? Is there a scale that equates the length of time that nicotine will remain in the blood system based on the amount of cigarettes smoked daily?
@tonnie
Wait for a couple of months atleast. The nicotine statys in blood atleast for 2 weeks for a normal smoker. Once the nicotine is flushed in this timeframe, then it should be fine. Work out daily.

If I smoke a couple of cigars a week without inhaling them, how long do I need to wait before a saliva or urine test.
@Blanco
For taking a saliva test, it is very safe if you could wait for at least 2 days fully. For a urine test, it would be better to wait for at least 2 weeks time. Be careful and let us know if you need further help

I am afraid to tell them for several reasons, but one is my insurance will be cancelled. Thank you for your time.
Why the hell would anyone ever be tested for nicotine?
We are required at work to be tested for Nicotine when the new medical benefits open for the follwoing year. I am sure the testing as alot to do with the insurance expense. It is real out there!
BECAUSE WORK PLACES ARE REQUIRING IT DUE TO THE HEALTH INS.
IF YOU TEST POSITIVE FOR NICOTINE THEN THEY RAISE YOUR RATES. WE ARE DEALING WITH THAT WHERE I WORK. IF YOU DONT STOP THEN THE INS. IS ALMOST DOUBLED IN PREM. ANOTHER WAY
TO SCREW THE EMPLOYEE.
I found out when applying an application at the Hospital for a job…in their application says I have to take a nicotine pee test….which I had to sign my name and all to agree to such test…and I am a smoker…which if your a smoker…they will not hire you if they find out you have nicotine in your pee. They say in the application WE are a drug and smoking free hopst….To me it’s discriminating against the smokers…which I am trying to quit..but it sure isn’t easy when you don’t have the money to buy things to stop the cravings and gaining weight.

He is a bit worried…how long does he need to stop smoking so his blood work come out clean??? I myself have smoked for 9 yrs this month…I am ready to quit. I have been having heart problems. I am quiting cold turkey (nothing else works), so what is it that I can do to help the snippyness that comes along with it? What can I do to keep busy and stress free so I dont go light one up?? This is hard for me…I have woke up everyday for about a month and said this is the day..and then something crazy happens and I go run to have a smoke. PLEASE help. Thank you
I have a “blood test” for nicotine in 7 days. Does anyone know if the nicotine patches or the gum show up as having nicotine in my system. Any help would be appricated. Time is running out!
Well yeah! The patch IS nicotine and WILL show up in any urine or blood test. The patch is only to help you not inhale smoke into your lungs and help with not actually smoke a cigarette. Best thing to do is STOP all together if your going to be tested.

There is finally a way to quit smoking, which may not be effortless, but relatively easier. If you talk to other people especially smokers, they may discourage you and say that it’s impossible. But that’s not true
What easy methods are you talking about?
Nicotine is one of the most addicting substance in this world so avoid smoking cigarettes.:,-

It’s a shame but it appears as though Ricky Hatton’s last big fight has ended in a knockout he lost – to cocaine. Not so much the champ is dead as the chump is dead. A sad occasion.
ive applied for a job that wants u to be smoke free for at least 6mths. They are going to test my nicotine levels is it anyway around it
i hve a quick question. why would it be illegal to smoke if your of legal age to? i can see why you would be tested for drugs or somethin. but why nicotine?
@tyler
It’s usually for a job that considers their business to be “smoke free”. Some placed say that but don’t require a nicotine test but some do. It could also be for insurance purposes…..
It’s not about the legalities with nicotine, it’s the liability. Insurance is much higher for smokers. So companys can adopt a non-tobacco policy to keep rates lower. And Health Insurance Companies obviously see tobacco users as a higher risk for heart disease, etc.
I’ve been smoking for a long long time. A pack a day easy. I started using Chantix two weeks ago. Still at about a little over half a pack. I was told today that they will be doing a nicotine test before hiring me at this new company. Is 2 weeks of NOT smoking enough to pass this test? (I’m sure its not a hair sample) probably a urine or mouth swab.
I smoke cigars once a day, taking a life insurance test, how long do I need to stop smoking cigars, do not in hale, in order to pass the test?
I am not a smoker but I smoked 2 cigarettes with a friend in October…and two cigarettes with that same friend 5 days ago (bad influence I know!). I didn’t realize that I would be tested at my new job. They will test me tomorrow morning. Not sure if they will use hair or urine testing. What are the chances that nicotine will be detected? They want to be a smoke free employer. If they do detect small amounts, how should I handle it?
Thank you!
I have been smoker off and on for ten years. i’ve been quitting for the last three years. trying everything, patches,gum, cold turkey, lowering the amount. i havent been a regular smoker for about five months. I no longer smoke more then 4 a day if i do smoke.
my question to you is with a person who weights 150 and doesn’t smoke regularly and quits cold turkey and drinks plenty of water how long exactly will nicotine be in my system. i hear your brain is clear of it with in the first 40 minutes of quitting. please help giving me idea’s, tips and anything that will incourage me to quit i need to and want to thank you very much
Since I’m also a smoker (not a heavy one though..) I found the information here quite interesting. Hopefully, I will succeed of getting rid of this bad habit as well as other bad habits like eating junk foods, cheeseburgers, pancakes bacon and etc.
On the list of key perils connected with tobacco is due to Nicotine. Nicotine is actually found effortlessly within tobacco. It’s absolutely no aroma no color. It really is, nonetheless, each bodily in addition to psychologically addictive, also it will cause those who utilize it to would like to smoke a pipe one particular butt once another.
I use an E-Cig and vape. I wanted to know would that show up on a drug test? I am trying to get life insurance but they are requiring me to be nicotine free. I just don’t know how much is in these or how they will show up.
I’m dealing with the same thing. I’m told that because the ecig has nicotine, it’s the same as smoking a cigarette. You just aren’t putting all the nasty stuff in your body! According to my agent, nicotine is nicotine when it comes to life insurance. How did it work out for you?
I would tell this to my friends for them to stop smoking. Thanks
My husband hasn’t smoked in 3 months,he’s trying to get an operation done at a VA center.He’s been tested 3 times for nicotine and the blood work says he’s been smoking and he hasn’t.I’ve cleaned and washed the inside of his truck,all clothing,and no one smokes around him within 20 feet outside.One Va closest to us say his blood is clean,Boston Va sats he has been smoking,what is going on?
he is probably smoking…
Will the patch show up in my urine? Or the gum show up. I have to have surg. with the VA and They tested me today but I’ve been on the patch’s. Please let me know if anyone does know.
The half-life of nicotine is 2 hours. This means that it takes only 14 hours for its concentration in the body to be reduced by over 99%. However, the sensitivity of urine testing effectively raises the half-life to 11 hours, requiring 77 hours for 99% elimination. In 111 hours (less than 5 days) your urine will be over 99.9% free of nicotine.
So the short answer is 5 days.
For those trying to quit, it may help to remind oneself that the difficulty is almost entirely psychological, which is to say that it’s a matter of will-power, not physiological dependence. It’s the habits of use (e.g., having a cigarette between your fingers, or a wad of tobacco in your cheek) that one must overcome.
will nicotine still show in a blood test 15 days from now. Ray
I am applying for life insurance and it is required of me to take an oral fluid swab of my saliva for testing. The last cigarette I had was on Dec. 30, 2011. I had about probably a total of 2 whole cigarettes. I haven’t smoked since then. I am not a regular smoker, only when I go out. I rarely go out. I have gone out a total of 3 times last year. I have about a total of 2 cigarettes each time I went out. Will it show up on the oral swab for the saliva testing?
Well I have been chewing tobacco for a couple of years now I go through a can in about two days and my mom is starting to notice and she is the type to do a drug test on me and I wanted to know how long will it take to detox and what can I do to help detox my system

Your husband did not quit smoking. He’s ashamed and hiding it from you but the test doesn’t lie. Stop cleaning his car cuz thats not why hes failing the test.
I quit smoking a year and a half ago. I chew on occasion and hqve a test on Tuesday. Will the niccotine from the chew show up?
I’ve smoked for over 20 years… Stopping for pregnancies and pnemonia…etc. But since others around me have no desire to stop, I’m always surrounded by it… At my peak, I smoked 3 pks a day. About a month a go, I went over 5 days without smoking. But now I’m smoking about 5-10 cigs a day…and have to get a blood nicotine test… What should I do? I can’t do nicotine replacement therapies. And quiting cold turkey concerns me, as I have 4 boys that often stress me… Any help will be welcomed!!
I have to take a nicotine test & was wondering if using the patches would make me fail the test??
